Becoming a receptionist require certain skills that can be
learnt easily without any difficulty. Other than communication and
interpersonal skills, there are other important things as well.
Smile always:
It’s true. The most genuine and warm smile can cure even the
worst of days. A great front desk agent should be smiling 100% of the time.
Yes, I know that there are days when we don’t feel like smiling, but an awesome
front desk member should be ready to come to work with a smile. Read my recent
article.
Smile is actually something that is worth million dollars.
Warm smile can brighten up anyone’s day within no time. If we focus on the
different descriptions of a front desk officer, it is important for the
receptionist to be smiling all the time. He or she must appear quite welcoming.
Well-informed about
the Local Area:
When guests have questions about your hotel’s vicinity, they
will probably approach the desk. As such, every member of the front desk team
should be knowledgeable enough to be able to answer these questions and make
recommendations including where to eat, where to shop, local hot spots, what to
do, etc.
One must be very much informed regarding the local areas as
most of the guests are quite keen to explore the areas around their hotel. They
might want to walk or jog and they might ask you about the local areas.
Therefore, instead of telling them you have no idea, it is better to get some
time so that you can search for the information. Even though, these are minor
things, you must be ready for them.
Resourceful:
One expecting the unexpected is the one who is successful in
this industry. It is important to understand that customers have several
requests and they are unexpected most of the time. No one can control the
customers and their requests but one surely can manage the staff and train them
accordingly. Therefore, it is important to train them in a proper manner so
that they can fulfill the needs of the customers.
